Loneliness crept all over me
I was all by myself
Life without friends,
Nobody with a lending hand.

I trip and fall and cry out loud,
Nobody helps or picks me up.
Everybody just runs past,
With gossips, giggles and laughs

I longed to play with the other children
No offers from them though.
I was too shy to ask from them
So everything remained the same,
All dull and cold

I had emotions too
Don’t the other children know?
They leave me in the lurch
While they play heartily away

I couldn’t take it anymore
I decided to move away
To a new school and place
Where I could find myself again

The Loner is basically about a boy who was isolated by his peers and then him leaving at the end of the poem. I feel very sad for the Loner as being alone is something that many people fear. I think that the Loner is a rather "complicated" boy. In the poem, it was mentioned that the Loner goes to the playground but he never plays. He was probably shy or was anti-social, yet at the same time, he longed to play with the other children but "neither he nor we will yield". That quote probably meant that both he and the other children had an ongoing battle as to who will decide to join each other first. Both sides did not show any initiative though. At the end, the Loner moved to another place. He might have wanted to start life afresh in a new school and place where he will be able to make friends, where there was a chance for him.

I feel that the other children are rather mean, especially to the Loner. In the third stanza, they passed the loner in groups, low talking. They were probably making fun of the Loner. The Loner had been so bored at the playground that he "smacked his hands against the brick" and "other boredom-beating tricks". Someone must have had noticed him doing that. And yet, nobody offered to let him join in the fun. Instead, they treated the loner as if he was non-existent. All the other children have formed cliques but the Loner is always by himself. The children should have spared a thought for his feelings. In the third stanza, "we pass him by and never speak", shows how the other children brazenly ignored him. From these points, I conclude that the other children are mean and unkind. It also shows that there are always loners whom others ignore, in the playground, in anywhere around the world.

I learnt how to analyse characters better, that first impressions count. For example: When I saw the Joker, my first reaction was, "Oh my, why did he put such thick "makeup"? Was he mad or was he trying to scare people? Why is he dressed so dowdily? There was not a single good thing about him that I could think about. Whereas even though Batman had also worn a disguise, he did not appear to be scary and looked like Superman except that he did not have a cape.
"Heroes may not be perfect; villains may have valuable traits". I agree with this statement. The Joker's determination has brought him much success, though notorious. Batman's intentions are good but they may not reflect his goodness. It is only in dire situation that these actions are carried out.

I feel that the Joker is not worthy to be sympathised. The Joker has been very ruthless, cunning, malicious and selfish. The worst is that he has no qualms about killing people. He killed innocent people to receive gain for himself, for him and him only. He had killed all his accomplices who helped him in the success of the bank robbery, just so as to keep the money for himself. In the movie, he said to one of his accomplices when he had shot another one, "There will be one less person to share with, isn't it?" Almost immediately, Joker shot him down. The actions of Joker are irreversible and have brought huge damage to that city. Clearly, Joker is utmost malicious and is not worthy to be pitied upon.
